Dan's Street Bites

Dan's Street Bites

As part of a Visual Design course in the bachelor’s program Communication and Multimedia Design (CMD) at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, a project was undertaken to create a single-page website centered around the theme of street food. The design used a bold and visually striking red and black color scheme, which was part of the project’s stylistic direction.

Throughout the project, foundational principles of visual design were explored. Working with form, color, and typography, the principles of design—particularly Gestalt laws—were applied in the layout, including the law of simplicity, foreground and background, and proximity.

Design process

Designing is a process that involves several steps, and each week included the creation of new sketches and variations. This iterative approach deepened the understanding of fundamental design guidelines and how form, color, and typography interact within a layout.

Receiving feedback proved to be an essential part of the design journey, leading to valuable lessons in handling constructive criticism and improving work accordingly. Design choices were discussed, and visual notes (sketchnotes) were created to effectively track progress throughout the project.
